Letter from SPCA

Letter from SPCA 150 150 schoolman

Last Christmas season the school made another large donation to the SPCA as in previous years. It included around one tonne of food and numerous treats, toys and blankets for the animals. Thanks to the parents who also made donations where they couldn’t send any food.

Some of the largest donations were made by:

Teagan Robinson, Milezaan Lategan, Kayley Basson, Sheldon Gidhard, Slayden Mathee Tammy Gidhard and Rachel Branicka. Well done to these children and their parents we know that you made many animals happy over the holidays.

Grade 1 First Day 150 150 schoolman

We added a few photos of some of the grade one’s. Not many, just to give some parents a look at their kids working in class – We couldn’t take many photo’s they had too much work to do!

You can check them out on our Google+ page

Google+

In order to keep things simple let’s just say Google+ is a version of Facebook (lots of people will be frowning now but that’s basically what it is) It’s a fast and easy platform that you can use as a Facebook alternative or you can use it with facebook.

For more info you can check out the Google Blog

All our photos will be posted using Google+ and we will be updating it as events happen – if all goes well. Join Google+ today – it’s quick, it’s useful and it’s fun!

Swimming!

Swimming! schoolman

Can you swim? Can your child swim? If they do then send them to Mrs Matthews and we’ll see if they have the ability to participate in the Interhouse Galas! Just make sure you can swim first before you attend…

You can read more about swimming in this letter which was sent home recently –> swimming letter (you can also find this on our documents page)

How do I get my child started?

Start by sending the tear off slip back to school. You can find this document above if you’ve lost the original or check the documents page. Swimming starts on the 23rd January 2012!

No tear-off slip – no swimming!

Times

The bus will leave at 13:45 and take everyone to the swimming pool at Birchleigh (all children have to go on the bus because this ensures we can keep track of every child attending) This also means that if you are in Grade 1, 2 or 3 you must wait in waiting class until 13:45. The bus will be back at around 15:15

Public Pool

Yip the Kempton Public Pool is in fact empty and in the process of repairs 🙁 However The swimming coaches have made arrangements with Birchleigh Swimming Pool so thanks to the swimming girls & boys for that! 🙂

Costumes

At this stage any appropriate costume will do. We will inform you about any changes at a later stage.

Top 20?

Top 20? 150 150 schoolman

We apologise for the delay and will be posting the updated Academic Top 20 only next year. All photographs of prefects and monitors will also be updated next year and we’ll add them to the gallery and send the photos to the newspaper.

Gallery

We will also be adding images to our archived gallery at photobucket and posting the link next year so all the parents who want to go back and see some older images may do so.

The End

The End schoolman

Well it’s been a very busy year with the school concert, sports days, fun days, raffles and teachers vs kids days, prize givings and exams. We recently had our annual prize giving and Goosey had their Graduation today.  We thank the parents who managed to come around and support the children.

We would also like to congratulate the open team Cricket boys as they took on the “old toppies” in a game of cricket yesterday. We decided to let them win the game because we felt sorry for them…

Congratulations to the children we named prefects for 2012 as well as those learners who have been selected as monitors.

Please travel safe and look after yourselves during this festive season.

Report Cards

Remember that report cards can be collected on the 9th of December 2011 from 08:00-10:00 As soon as learners have collected their report cards they can go home.

SPCA

SPCA

We are collecting for the SPCA yet again in the hopes of giving the animals some goodies. We hope to collect food and money and make this a record for AMPS – we can only do this with the help of the parents and children!

The collection will end on the 25th November 2011 and we have created a competition which will hopefully encourage the children to bring some money/food. Let’s help the animals at the SPCA because it’s the right thing to do! The points work as follows:

Scoring System

1 point for a small can of food, a food sachet, gravy or a small toy

2 points for a big tin of food, 500g-1.5kg of food or a big toy

5 points for a blanket, basket or 1.6-3kg of food.

10 points for 3.1kg-7kg of food

15 points for 7.1kg or more of food

Here is a picture of some of the food we collected last year for the SPCA.

Interhouse Athletics

Interhouse Athletics schoolman

On the 21stof October (Friday) on a sunny day we had our Interhouse Athletics. The week before staff and coaches worked through the school looking for promising talent for High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Sprints and middle / long distance. We also scouted for cheerleaders and supportive children.  It all amalgamated on Friday to form what was a great day of sport and singing! The Principal, Deputy, ground staff and Coaches all hit the field first thing in the morning to make sure tents, sound and recording equipment was ready by 8:00.

Athletes!

The support took to the stands to watch the ahtletes do the offcial march around the field. We are happy to annouce the learners looked awesome in their crazy face paint and wild hats! Special thanks to the teachers who tried (where possible) to keep learners on the stands and out of the sun! We will be announcing the winning team (House) on Monday although it looked like an Apollo victory – or was it? We’ll post the updated scores next week.

Smurfs!

Some supporting Parents!

It was great to see the support from parents who were able to be there, if you were not there on Friday there’s always Interschool and next year – come and support the kids then!

Staff never keep still

Staff never keep still!

Thank you!

Thank you! schoolman

The new term promises to be every bit as busy as the last. With the school concert over we just wanted to thank some people who provided photos of the school concert. Unfortunately the usual photographer was kept busy elsewhere and so parents pitched in to take some photos of the event. Among those parents were Patricia Dodgen & Susan Rush. Thanks to Marius de Kock who also took photos and recorded the DVD.

We’d like to say another huge thank you to Carol Hatton and June Schnetler who sewed on average 18-25m of material for each flag. The flags were used as backdrops and attached to curtain rails (put up by our competent ground staff under the guidance of our principal) We estimate that these ladies sewed in excess of 250m of material during their spare time!

Thank you for this, we hope to include some shots of the flags which were created in the near future
