Saving the Rhino project

Rhinos are killed in South Africa at an alarming rate and the Aston Manor community is encouraged to make a difference. Learners can enter a competition where they draw a picture of a rhino or write a short story about a rhino. Attached to the art work or story the learners have to place an envelope with R30-00 as an entry fee. Learners are reminded to write their name, surname and grade on the artwork / story and envelope and post their entry in the post box that is situated in the front office of the school.

  • The competition end date is 19 July 2018. Winners will be announced on 22 July 2018.
  • Monies raised will be donated to the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust and used to combat the poaching of rhinos.

1.7 Tonnes!

We want to say a big thank you to all the parents and learners for their generous food donations towards our SPCA competition this year. We also had many donations of money, toys, blankets and treats! Mrs D van Dijk started the yearly SPCA competition 6 years ago where the school collected one car full of food – Over the last 6 weeks of 2014 AMPS went from one car of food, to 1.7 tonnes of cat and dog food!

AMPS is proud of the parents, learners and staff who made the effort to make this Christmas Season a happy one for the animals at the Kempton Park SPCA. We are also proud to say that from this year AMPS is supporting a kennel and we look forward to working with the SPCA for many years to come. Please support the charity organisations of South Africa!

Grade 7 Business Day

Grade 7 Business Day 150 150 schoolman

Congratulations to the Grade 7 group of 2014 as well as the Grade 7 Educators and Mrs Luppnow for organising a successful EMS Business Day on the 5th of September. The learners were in charge of their own shops and had to draw up business plans and manage their money correctly as part of an EMS exercise. They then put their knowledge to the test as they setup their shops, making sure to have enough products for the day, making sure their shops would be attractive to other learners passing buy and creating a product other people wanted to purchase or invest in.

Unfortunately we didn’t have a nice wide angle lens on the day but we did manage to capture one or two images for you to have a look at – Congratulations to all the children and thank you to the parents who assisted the learners in making sure the day was a success.

Drama Cultural Evening

Drama Cultural Evening 150 150 schoolman

To the parents, friends and grandparents who attended the Cultural Evening on Thursday 4th September thank you very much for supporting the children and our school. The learners who participated were very talented and rehearsed the acts well. Congratulations to these children.

Special thanks to all the staff who worked hard behind the scene to make the event a success. For those of you who don’t know the drama group participated in the Eisteddfod and performed “The Grinch Who stole Christmas” the play received great recognition from the Eisteddfod judges and the school was awarded a Prestige Certificate.

Cultural activities shouldn’t be overlooked as it helps the children improve their vocabulary, boost their confidence and enables them to experience a different side to the school other than just academics and sport.

Thank you to Mrs Van Dijk for all her organising and patience.

Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs 150 150 schoolman

The Grade 6 Learners went to the school hall to learn more about the South African Guide Dog Association. The Guide Dogs help hundreds if not thousands of visually impaired people every year and rely heavily on funding and donations from the public.

As a non profit organisation the Guide Dog Association is run extremely well and it is important for the learners at AMPS to understand the difficulties visually impaired people face on a day to day basis. Thank you to the Grade 6 teachers for organizing this demonstration and thank you to the South African Guide Dogs Association for coming to the school to demonstrate their magnificent animals.
